New album: Ryan Hamilton || Haunted By The Holy Ghost

It was a bumpy ride – I’m pretty sure unrelated to the album title – but we can finally enjoy Haunted By The Holy Ghost, the new full-length from Fort Worth, Texas-based singer/songwriter/guitarist Ryan Hamilton. The musician grew up in a conservative Church of Christ, which led to a kind of insurmountable fear of God, hence the album theme. From the title track: “You try to run // You want to hide // But that pain remains // And it stays way down deep inside.”

It’s quite a personal record and dark subjects are not shunned in the lyrics, but it never gets heavy handed, thanks to the cheerful vocals and uplifting sound. The influences from power pop and heartland rock are present again, but are processed in a distinctive and unique way. You’ll hear ten passionate songs (including a strong cover of Splender’s Yeah, Whatever), which are delivered confidently, more straightforward and explicit than before. This had to be a kick ass record with good songs, fun from start to finish – mission accomplished.
