Ten years after their debut LP Boogie Generation, Florence, Italy’s four-piece The Drunken Rollers return with their sophomore album Deserto, a 51-minute road trip of narrative-driven Southern rock. The travel-worn storytelling trace a journey through ambition, disillusionment, and self-discovery, moving from the empty promises of fame and external validation to the need for authenticity, resilience, and personal freedom. Beneath the loud guitars, themes of loneliness, regret, lost love, and inner turmoil ultimately converge in a stark portrait of emotional collapse and the search for meaning in life’s desert. But just as easily, it’s about pure rock ‘n’ roll: “Play it loud // scream and shout // play it loud // feel the sound”), escaping the illusion of success, one riff at a time.
