In my write-up about Lowmoon’s Monochrome at the beginning of this month, I mentioned that their music video was set to clips from 1985 movie The Breakfast Club, only to discover now that High Park Society did the same a few weeks earlier for their Molly Ringwald single, named after one of the film’s leading actors. As far as I’m concerned, it’s one of the nicest this-should-be-a-summer-hit songs of this year, catchy and cheerful, so I’m sharing it here too. It is the opening track of 5-track EP I Can’t Believe You’re Being So Nice To Me by Canadian singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Frank Babic, who has been active under the High Park Society moniker for a number of years. The other tunes are quite different from this one, from the reggaesque Mr. Nicely to piano ballads I Wished You Away and I Lost My Friends, with 70’s Child, indebted to David Bowie and Mott the Hoople, standing out thanks to its wealthy music and vintage video.
The I Can’t Believe You’re Being So Nice To Me EP is out on all streaming services (self-released).
