The Scums may still be an unknown name, but it is actually an alias of Japanese garage rock band Stompin’ Riffraffs, who formed in Tokyo in 2006 and have since made a name for themselves with cool releases and frantic live shows. Anyway, Nao (guitar, vocals), Rie (bass), Miku (keyboard, theremin) and Saori (drums) debut under this new moniker with a 45 featuring two raucous tunes full of fuzz. A-side Slay So Hard is a dirty punk hit performed by a tough voice and stomping rhythm section, flipside The Rattlesnake is an instrumental floor filler starring mean guitar riffs. This one could easily become a collector’s item.
Slay So Hard b/w The Rattlesnake is out now on vinyl 7″ trough Soundflat Records.
