The Swedish garage rockers from The Maharajas have been active in the scene for a quarter of a century – meaningful education, that they say they have finally completed. If you listen to their new full-length album Rock’n’Roll Graduates, you can only agree that Mathias Lilja (lead vocals, lead guitar), Jens Lindberg (rhythm guitar, organ), Ulf Guttormsson (bass) and Jesper Karlsson (drums, percussion, flute) are done mastering the genre, without losing any of their energy. Cool guitar riffs? Check. Even cooler organ melodies? Check. Wild danceable rhythms? Check. Psych, fuzz and groove? Check. The 13 new tunes here (including Hollies cover You Know He Did) are textbook examples of what 60s garage rock should sound like.
