New EP: The Heavenly Bodes || A Shelf You Can Applaud At A Distance

Sneers, sweat, and swirling guitars in perfect disorder

The Heavenly Bodes are a garage psych outfit from South Cornwall, UK, featuring Alex Mantle, Fin Wilson, Iolo Taliesin Puleston, and Paul James Ruskin, emerging from the Kernow Beat scene there. Although they already have a few nice releases with early recordings to their name, we should consider A Shelf You Can Applaud At A Distance as their debut EP.

The four tracks sound as hoped and expected based on the cover photo and EP title: lo-fi and unpolished, raw and energetic, fuzzy and hallucinogenic. For me, their greatest assets are the dynamic song structures with exciting interplay and inventive tempo changes, along with the sneering vocals and enticing guitar patterns. Danceable and mind-expanding, who wouldn’t want that?
