Two years after Irregularis (The Great Hiatus), Billy Childish, Bruce Brand, and Johnny “Tub” Johnson are back with The Sherlock Holmes Rhythm ‘n’ Beat Vernacular—if the title doesn’t make it abundantly clear, also musically it’s as inspired and ambitious as ever. This is a 12-track jolt of punk-tinged R’n’B energy with a raw garage rock sound.

These are largely self-penned songs previously recorded by one of Billy Childish’s other projects, reprised here with an undeniable urgency, along with successful covers of Dearest Darling (Bo Diddley) and I Got Love if You Want It (Slim Harpo). Old formula, new fire, timeless adrenaline—a loud and loose reawakening that feels like a greatest hits collection.
