With a tantalizing band name like Swimming Pools And Movie Stars and an intriguing cover photo by Jeff Mercader, you can only hope the music is just as beautiful. Fortunately, the Airspace LP lives up to expectations. It’s the sophomore album from the dream-pop project of Los Angeles-based songwriter Laurence Macaspac (vocals, guitar, synth), who enchants with eight new songs—along with Droo Taruc (guitar) and Cynar Magno (bass).

Expect a kaleidoscopic leap from whispered hooks to Madchester swagger, with shimmering melodies and melancholic atmospheres. You can call it jangle pop, post-punk, shoegaze, new wave, chamber psych, or synthpop—all a kind of true—but what matters much more is that it’s a sound that slowly but surely brings you into a state of immersion, unconsciously smiling approvingly.
