Listen to Lover, Let Me In, the new solo LP from Seattle’s idiosyncratic singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Scott Yoder—heard here on vocals, guitar, bass, drums, percussion, synth, and keyboards. After years of shape-shifting—from the psych-rock of The Pharmacy, via a wandering folk troubadour, to a glam-inspired solo act with painted face—the artist seems to have landed on something more introspective, but no less dramatic.

The ten songs here wrestle with barriers: the invisible walls between people who want to connect, the distance that lingers despite good intentions. It works like a charm, I wouldn’t be surprised if standout track Never Be Another Day became a big radio hit.
