Boston superduo The Peppermint Kicks—Sal Baglio (The Amplifier Heads, The Stompers, Butcher Baglio & Estes) and Dan Kopko (The Shang Hi Los, Watts)—returns with ten loud bubblegum-popping songs (plus a short hidden bonus track), collected under the telling title Pop Rocks In My Chewing Gum. The two musicians share duties on vocals, guitars, piano, mellotron, synth, and percussion, but above all a lot of sun-kissed fun.
It never actually happens, but this is what you hope to hear on the radio on your way home from a night out: catchy power pop-meets-glam rock singalongs that boost your mood (“Oh Yeah!”). This isn’t about being cool or embracing modernity; this is simply about having a good time and longing for a better world, in the name of rock ‘n’ roll.
Pop Rocks In My Chewing Gum is out now digitally and on CD through Rum Bar Records. Also featuring Kevin Rapillo, Chris Anzalone and Napoleon Hashimoto drumming on select tracks.
