Three years have passed since their Twelve Hymns To Syng Along LP, but that doesn’t mean the members of Dutch garage rock trio The Kryng have taken time to get bored—among their many side projects, their involvement in Fleur’s Fille Sauvage stands out as particularly noteworthy. Anyway, on album number 7, the super trio of Mark ten Hoor, Peter Kroes, and Arjan Spies pick up right where they left off: Sweet Vibration compromises 12 uncut Nederbeat songs each clocking in at just over two minutes (plus two brief interludes that lend the album its name), in which pop sensibilities increasingly emerge from the grit and fuzz, sprinkled with some subtle psych touches. Remarkably, both sides of the album close with tender acoustic ballads—How I Love and Oh I Love You—a surprising move from a band so steeped in garage tradition. Between those bookends, The Kryng weave together a spectrum of 60s styles into a tight, cohesive whole—revitalized with contemporary flair and unmistakable craftsmanship.
Sweet Vibration—written by Mark ten Hoor, recorded/produced by Arjan Spies—is out now digitally and on vinyl LP through Soundflat Records.
