New album: Fleur || Fille Sauvage

French pop elegance with a gritty, garage edge in a fresh and fiery Nederbeat release

“I wanted to cut loose and show everyone I can get wild. This might just be my favorite album yet—it’s still me, but with a rawer, spicier edge.” Anyone who has seen Dutch yé-yé singer Fleur aka Floor Henkelman live recently (or who has read our posts about advance singles Tu Es Un Être Parfait and Nous Continuerons à Marcher Ensemble) already knew that her third full-length Fille Sauvage would be grittier and louder, and we don’t mind at all that it really is. This is in no small part due to her backing band The Kryng—Mark ten Hoor (guitar), who also wrote the songs, Peter Kroes (bass, guitar, piano, vibraphone) and Arjan Spies (drums, guitar, piano)—who lay down a solid garage rock foundation of dirt and fuzz for the vibrant vocals that bring the French lyrics to the fore with audible pleasure. It’s 60s-inspired rhythms and infectious choruses that unite in a thrilling mix.

Fille Sauvage, recorded, produced, mixed and mastered by Arjan Spies, is out now digitally, on CD and vinyl LP, through Soundflat Records, and on cassette via Harry Records. Also featuring Paul Zoontjens (pianet), Gijs de Jong (piano) and Fleur (piano) on select tracks.
