The ink hadn’t even dried on our overview of favorite covers of last month, when I stumbled upon the new 45 by Seattle-based garage rock band Low Hums. Its A-side is a psychedelic version of Sub – Mission, originally by Sex Pistols (from their 1977 single Pretty Vacant). Taking inspiration from the hallucinatory 60s, they teleport the track into the present, making it their own with underwater bubbles and otherworldly riffs, not to mention those magnetic vocals. Original B-side Sugarcube is cut from the same cloth, but with a summery surf vibe. If you agree this is cool music, join me in diving into Low Hums’ discography.
