Well, this is a nice surprise! Let me welcome you to Pigeon Island, a new band from Big Kids frontman Jason Romero and also featuring members of Acid Fast, Swearin’, and George Crustanza. They just dropped their debut LP Bad Kids on Lauren Records and Saltamarges Records.

If there’s a mission statement to this band, it’s to have fun (in writing music, playing shows, and visiting friends on tour). And sure, there’s a lot of positive energy in these tunes that are deliberately left unpolished. The band has a sound that’s part Piebald, part Joyce Manor, part org core, 1/10th Guided by Voices (they cover Gold Star for Robot Boy), part surprisingly welcome horn parts, and the occasional sample. I’m no mathematician, but I think that adds up to 110% of the good kind of punk rock.
