Zo Lief (translated: so sweet) is the dream pop project of Dutch singer/songwriter/guitarist Laura Chen and British multi-instrumentalist James Attwood—both musical and romantic partners. They made their debut two years ago with the Believe What You Believe EP, which they now follow up with the Hypnosis EP. For those who thrive on cinematic atmospherics with a whimsical edge.

You’ll hear six trippy chamber psych songs in which angelic vocals and poetic lyrics miraculously merge with fuzzy guitars, atmospheric synths, and an inventive rhythm section. For many listeners, the challenges of life and love sung about will be relatable—like “You complain // About how it is insane // But never actually explain what’s really bothering you” (from opening track You (A Burden))—but the sound also gets under your skin.
