The Red Birds, a trio from Angers, France, debuted four years ago with a four-song tribute EP dedicated to the label they took their name from—Red Bird Records, founded by Jerry Leiber, Mike Stoller, and George Goldner in the ’60s. Now, they return with a trio of originals that sound like covers of ’60s pop classics, reimagined through the lens of a ’70s power pop band. But maybe my deductive skills are off—honestly, I’m not even sure if these are Red Birds originals at all. It wouldn’t be the first time I’ve failed to recognize the original artist(s). Either way, what matters is that Out of Our Cage is irresistibly catchy.
