American singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Alexei Shishkin already released two worthy long-players this year, Open Door Policy and Dagger, and as if it were nothing he wrote another six songs last summer, collected on the Greenwich Mean EP. The magnetic title track – atmospheric, but with a nervous rhythm – is the only one with vocals, but it is an inviting prelude to the instrumentals that follow. They are lo-fi indie pop tunes in a jazz guise, a soundtrack you expect when you are in a foreign country – lost in translation – sipping your drink in a nearly deserted bar in the middle of the night.
