New album: Rain on Fridays || Death To Affection

Exploring alienation and authenticity through raw soundscapes

It’s been five years since San Diego-based noise trio Rain on Fridays released their debut LP Mono Monday (including TikTok hit Slumber Party), now they’re back with sophomore album Death To Affection. In eleven new tracks, songwriter Madison Coe (vocals, bass), Jesse Miller (guitar) and Louie Noel (drums) search for authenticity and meaningful connection amid conflict and superficiality—the beautiful cover art captures that inner struggle quite well. When, 30 seconds into the opening track Something Strange, you hear the distinctive vocals – intense and heartfelt, powerful and gritty – climbing over the heavy sound barrier, you feel that this is going to be a special and emotional ride. Somewhere between dynamic alt rock and raw garage punk, between melodic singing and desperate screams (between ice and lava, as it is expressed in standout track We Are So Alike), there is a lot to discover here that may be strange but is even more impressive.

Death To Affection, produced by Jordan Andreen, is out now digitally (self-released).
