While I took an instant liking to Autumn Rhythm’s 2023 sophomore full length Joy For Tomorrow, I quickly found out I underestimated its actual appeal. The record increasingly grew on me to the extent that, by the year’s end, it easily made my list with favorite records. It says something about the quality of the songwriting of this New York quartet. Their songs sneak up on you, revealing new layers with each listen. Now, their follow-up album, Nothing Gold, is having the same effect — it’s out now on 3 Friends Records.
The fuzzy underground indie rock of Autumn Rhythm is part emo, part slacker but even more ’90s alt pop. Use Car Seat Headrest, Liquid Mike, and State Drugs as reference points and you get the idea. Autumn Rhythm have a talent for crafting songs that linger in your mind long after the music stops. They are the kind of band that rewards patient listeners who are willing to dive deep into their music.
