Throughout his long career, Californian singer/songwriter/guitarist Rocco DeLuca released CDs solo and with his band Rocco DeLuca and the Burden, he created music for films, television shows and video games, and he collaborated with renowned artists as diverse as June Carter Cash, Slash, Daniel Lanois and D’Angelo. A meeting with Johnny Shepherd at The Hallelujah Train back in 2015 led to the successful Heavy Sun project in 2021, which the two artists are now building on in Mighty Glad. Together with Seth Ford-Young, Ryan Carman, Dylan Day and Lucas Guerin, they live recorded the nine exceptional songs that make up this self-titled debut album. Expect subdued psychedelic soul with elements of Americana, rhythm & blues, cosmic country and gospel, in which melancholic steel guitars, an atmospheric Hammond organ and goosebump-inducing voices push each other to great heights. Call it pure, subtle, graceful, sensitive or magical, but truly extraordinary will also suffice. The beautiful track All the Way hits me the hardest, I would even like to have it played at my funeral when the time comes: “And every moment seems like I get closer // To my, to my journey’s end.”
Mighty Glad’s self-titled album, produced by Rocco DeLuca with Chris Rondinella, is out now digitally (self-released). Featuring Rocco DeLuca (vocals, pedal steel, guitar), Johnny Shepherd (vocals, organ, piano), Seth Ford-Young (vocals, double bass), Dylan Day (guitar), Lucas Guerin (vocals, guitar) and Ryan Carman (drums).
