“This life’s a parachute and I’ve been skydiving through // But how ‘bout you?” I would like to introduce you to Sun Junkies, a DIY indie rock outfit from Brantford, Ontario (Canada) featuring Noah Carmichael, Ethan Silver, Nick Stacy and Issa Mohammad, who in their own words are “blending the fast, melody-forward nature of garage rock with the raw feeling and emotion of punk and emo music.” They just released their first LP called Parachuting, which sounds like the best debuts sound. Its fifteen songs are raucous, explosive, urgent and come with an overload of ideas, you can hear that the band members gave everything they had, and that’s a lot (reportedly these are demos, which they realized they would not be able to surpass – a good decision). Impressive and exhausting.
Parachuting, written & produced by Noah Carmichael & Ethan Silver, is out now digitally via Bummer Records. Also featuring Marissa Monk (violins, backing vocals), David Baldry (trumpet) and Willow Wingfield Morrison (trombone).
