Madison (Wisconsin) duo Jason Lambeth and Elsa Nekola are artists in a broad sense. Lambeth draws and makes collages and Nekola is an award winning author. They don’t just display their creative talent on paper though, they put it on tape as well under the Red Pants moniker. Their latest release is Not Quite There Yet, which is out now on Meritorio records – the label’s head honcho Álvaro Lissón mastered the LP.
Red Pants play a brand of noise pop/indie rock that has whispers of Yo La Tengo and Sonic Youth. Not Quite There Yet stands out for its compelling contrast between noise and fuzz on the one hand and sweet and hushed vocal melodies on the other hand. The songs are build on waves of repetitive instrumentation that slowly draw you in and become increasingly hypnotic and mesmerizing. The album is a grower, most definitely, but songs like Watch The Sky, Visions Of Gloria and Witchin Hour, Red Pants offer several accessible entry points. Recommended listening!
