New album: Pacing || Real poetry is always about plants and birds and trees and the animals and milk and honey breathing in the pink but real life is behind a screen

This is probably the longest album title in the history of Add To Wantlist, but it clearly shows how many quirky ideas and thoughts Pacing aka Katie McTigue must have in her head. Her version of Stacy’s Mom (Fountains Of Wayne) was one of our favorite covers from last month, but the twelve original songs on her sophomore LP are actually even more entertaining. Pacing is more than just another singer-songwriter with an acoustic guitar: the poetic, clever and relatable wordplay is what makes this release outstanding, the crystal clear vocals and the addition of some soundscapes make it extra fascinating. This anti-folk/bedroom-pop record stands at the heart of our times – the obvious theme is ‘What is real?’ – and is as personal as witty. Real poetry is always about plants and birds and trees and the animals and milk and honey breathing in the pink but real life is behind a screen are the first lines in opening track Bite Me, and it’s tempting to share more striking phrases here, but then this post will be way too long. Pacing has a lot to say and I don’t mind listening.
