The Spires are a trio from Ventura (California) that started releasing records in the aughts. They write quality indie rock that is subtle and tasteful. While that makes the band stand out in a positive light, finding an audience may pose as a challenge in a world where browsing for new music is often a fleeting experience. Perhaps I’m projecting, but the songs of The Spires are easy to overlook in quick scan and need multiple listens to fully appreciate. But, if you are into well written (and executed!) guitar pop and indie rock and are willing to spend some time, you should definitely give The Spires latest album Woke Up Strange a chance. You won’t regret it.
