The Chives’ new (and second) album Supervision doesn’t leave much breathing room but sure will get your heart racing. Being boring must a deadly sin in the universe of Boston based The Chives. They play twist’n’turn’n’shout garagerock’n’roll that is as chaotic and messy as it is loud and hooky.
If The Chives can sound this raucous and lively on record, it makes me curious to experience them live. Then I discovered The Chives are in fact a ten-piece collective which makes me wonder how many guitar players, bass players and drummers they have and whether they’d actually fit on the average stage. But with band members named Messy Nessy, Jackie Scooter, Johnny Staples, Vicky Sticks, EJ Pills, William Pills, Nancy Dew, Aidan Spleen, Young Hot Brad, and Dirty Denz, I am sure they will find a way to make it work somehow – Which is exactly what The Chives did on their new album Supervision.
