New album: Morgan and the Organ Donors || M.O.D.s

Morgan and The Organ Donors may not be an unfamiliar name for regular visitors to a certain out of sight bar in Olympia, Washington, as they reportedly performed there every December for the last ten years or so. Now that they’re releasing their full-length debut album, titled after the band’s abbreviation, everyone else would be wise to get to know them too.

It turns out we’re dealing here with Sara Peté (guitar, vocals), Olivia Ness (bass, vocals), James Maeda (guitar) and Tobi Vail (drums), musicians who made their mark in bands like Bikini Kill, C.O.C.O., and Spider and the Webs. They mix opposite flavors that go together surprisingly well: spicy garage punk with sweet doo-wop, and cool vocals with hot guitar riffs. The M.O.D.s LP contains eleven authentic rock songs – varied in tempo and style – with a rough edge and smooth harmonies, including excellent covers of Billy and the Kids’ It’s Not the Same and Dead Moon’s Clouds of Dawn. Fans of The Courettes, Reigning Sound, Blues Lawyer and The Sprouts really can’t skip this one, but the sound of Morgan and the Organ Donors is so exciting and unique that this actually applies to anyone with a record collection that has room for expansion.

M.O.D.s is out now digitally and on vinyl LP through K Records / Perennial.
