New album: Appleseeds! || æblefrø

Last year, I wrote about Magic Noodles, a great jangle pop/twee pop/C86 record by Tampopo, aka Kasper Clemmensen. This week, The Dane makes his debut with another project called Appleseeds! Clemmensen wrote and recorded all the songs, with Ditte Duus helping out on drums and giving the record some welcome dual vocal variety. That’s just one of the ingredients that make æblefrø such an enjoyable indie pop record. The instrumentation of Appleseeds! is playful, the singing is unpolished and authentic, the music is upbeat, twee, vulnerable, straightforward but not simplistic.

It’s not just the music that pops out, the records comes in a gorgeous package (CD with a 12-page booklet) as well. The cute album art by Mamoru Yamamoto almost seems taken out of a kid’s book. æblefrø is not a kids’ record though, but I would definitely call it family friendly. Which is great, because this is a record deserving much more ears, big and small. It is out now through the recently started Too Good To Be True label from France.
