Great Comet is the roots rock project of Seattle-based singer-songwriter Aaron New, who have just released their sonically expansive second album Stranger Land. Its eight original songs document the duality of constant motion: the joy of connection, the sting of absence, and the fragile comfort of watching the world roll by outside a van window: “Just a thousand miles to go // Making music fast and slow // Living the dream on a dime a day, that’s the way // Will it all work out, well who’s to say?” (from opening track Jump On In).

The record isn’t about arriving anywhere certain, but about living in the in-between—memory, distance, motion, and the attempt to make sense of it all. The narrative-driven songwriting, that feels both wide open and deeply personal, is delivered via big guitar licks and even bigger vocals, balancing strength and intimacy. “Try to test the hypotheses // Of paying bills and trying to eat // Well I’m living like a scientist // Learning how I’ll get on fine” (from Oughta Be).
