The Let Down are a new band out of Austin, Texas, made up of four friends with résumés that include Dawes, Nikki Lane, and Israel Nash. Their debut, the four-song Awake EP, is ear candy for power pop fans—jangly guitars, melodic hooks, and just enough alt-rock edge to keep things punchy.
Lead track On a String sets the tone immediately with a simple, addictive guitar lick that could’ve come straight from the skinny-tie ‘80s playbook. The next two cuts lean into ‘90s college radio vibes, before closer Don’t Make Me Be the One kicks in with urgency and Whiffs-like melodicism—arguably the EP’s standout moment.
An impressive opening statement, Awake suggests The Let Down are a band to keep an eye on—and a surefire scenepoint boost if you drop their name among power pop devotees.
