L.A. rock’n’roll outfit The Killing Floors made it to my 2023 year-end list with their Too Far Gone / You Know It Ain’t Right 7″, so I eagerly looked forward to more. It took its time arriving, but the wait is over, fortunately: here’s their long-awaited debut full-length, fittingly titled Los Angeles Chicano R’n’R. The five stylish musicians bottle the sweat, swagger, and chaos of their live shows into nine blasts (including the two aforementioned tracks) of übercool garage rock, tearing through infectious riffs, pounding rhythms, swaying organ melodies, and passionate vocals effortlessly switching between English and Spanish. Fueled by raw energy, danceable fun, and a vintage edge, it stands out most for how naturally memorable and catchy it all sounds.
Los Angeles Chicano R’n’R is out now digitally and soon also on vinyl LP through Soundflat Records.
