More than five years after their eponymous debut EP, Winnipeg, Canada-based garage punk duo Poison Suckers—Joanne Rodriguez and Joe Warkentin—are back with Charmer, a second batch of four deliciously trashy tracks. First and foremost, it’s lo-fi and loud (a recommendation in itself), but what really sticks is the character and undeniable catchiness (“Whoo-hoo-hoo!”) packed into these ten minutes. There’s a reckless charm to the way these songs crash and burn, yet every hook lands exactly where it should. The stripped-down production only amplifies the authenticity, giving each track a gritty, right-off-the-floor sound that’s hard to shake.
