Glasgow’s The Foot & Leg Clinic is actually The Wife Guys of Reddit in a new guise, yet their debut Sit Down for Rock and Roll has all the zest and candor of what makes a first album so attractive. The thirteen tracks zigzag happily between folkish jangle, skittery indie pop, and rattling wonk rock. Written through illness, grief, and a pause from gigging, Niamh R MacPhail, Arion Xenos, Angus Fernie, and Elise Atkinson convey that turbulence into something raucous but oddly tender.
Beneath the lyrics’ uncanny humor runs a loose theme of change: stalled expectations, aging bodies, and the quiet panic of realizing adulthood haven’t turned out as promised. Worms, fruit, and halcyon summers become symbols for decay, renewal, and the ongoing work of adapting. It’s strange and surreal, but also sharp and showy, suggesting that transformation is messy but inevitable.
