Newcastle’s indefatigable singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Zenxith (aka Daniel McGee) returns with his 17th DIY album, 6 Weeks Holiday, Nowhere To Play, a 13-track burst of lo-fi jangle pop tracked straight into his phone (no studio, no label, no fuss), at home in just 35 days during late 2025, around the time his previous LP What’s Happening To Me? came out.
It’s dreamy yet intimate, layered with hushed synths and drum machine rhythms, but even more so with jangly guitars and tambourine bells. Beneath the unpolished charm lies a portrait of modern malaise: boredom, job dissatisfaction, addiction, and the search for meaning, all filtered through dreamy, sky-gazing vulnerability. There’s a strong undercurrent of escapism, with trains to nowhere (“I don’t have my ticket // So I am hiding // Isn’t that the fun”), sleepless nights, fantasies of eternal youth or even self-destruction, contrasted with flashes of tenderness and reassurance.
The earworm chorus from previously shared single All The Time In The World is the highlight here, but there’s much more to enjoy.
6 Weeks Holiday, Nowhere To Play—written, performed, and recorded By Zenxith—is out now digitally and on CD through Zenxith’s own label, Salt Mine Records.
