From 2002 to 2010, Finnish garage rock trio Sweatmaster released four LPs (do yourself a favor and revisit their debut Sharp Cut, of which I Am A Demon And I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll is an anthem for the ages—I can’t count the times I’ve played it). After a long hiatus, Sasu Mykkänen (bass, vocals), Mikko Luukko (guitar), and Matti Kallio (drums) break the silence with a new full-length album, aptly titled More! (although Loud as Ever also would have been a good choice).
In no fewer than fourteen new songs, the band doubles down on what they do best: raw, no-frills rock built for the stage, driven by heavy riffs, pounding rhythms, and those characteristic mighty vocals, balling together in tightly wound energy. They steam through for over 38 minutes without losing momentum; zero excess, zero hesitation, just forward motion. Sweatmaster still sound like themselves, and that’s great news, right?
More! is out now digitally, on CD and vinyl LP, through Svart Records.
