Smilley is the DIY project of Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Miles Platt. Following his 2023 Stay Well! LP, he returns with two new original songs, Shin Ei and 8899. The former dwells on the cyclical ache of a damaged relationship; by contrast, the latter turns outward with a snarling, sarcastic edge, skewering arrogance and power with visions of inevitable consequence, pairing mock politeness with barely concealed fury at moral emptiness and self-made downfall. These are heartfelt sketches framed in alternative rock with heavy guitars and confident vocals, raw and straightforward.

Shin Ei b/w 8899—mixed and mastered by Colin Clayton—is out now digitally via Feels Like Monday.
