Born from phone-recorded demos and two years of road-testing across Alabama and surrounding areas, Haysop’s self-titled debut LP arrives sounding both lived-in and lively. We are talking about a new project by singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Jameson Hubbard (SQQUAT), who recorded thirteen warm full-band songs together with a skilled troupe of local musicians.
The album has a loose, laidback vibe—alt-country meets neo-psych—that sparkles without ever sanding down the edges. The lyrics drift between wry, anxious, tender, and cheekily self-aware, capturing the rush, confusion, and quiet ache of a new relationship. Heart-to-heart storytelling wrapped in front-porch swagger and a few rocking outbursts make this debut a mesmerizing road trip.
Haysop’s eponymous debut album is out now digitally, on CD and vinyl LP, through Cornelius Chapel Records. Also featuring Dan Walker (bass), Brantley Platt (lead guitar), Janet Simpson (vocals), Conor Rector (pedal steel), and Joseph Edwards (drums).
