Over thirty years have passed since Icecream Hands released their debut LP, Traveling… Made Easy, but they still sound just as fresh on Giant Fox Pineapple Tree, their eighth album. The lead single is aptly titled Back On The Road: “She took my keys and my guitar // Says that she’s gonna be a big star // Ah-ha”—a subtle reference to a key inspiration, but above all a delightful introduction to a new collection that weaves together a warm, humane thread of connection, renewal, and reflection: “She walks out like a song // And everybody plays along.”
Across eleven new tracks, the Australian power poppers sing not only about wistful wanderlust, but also about wide-eyed inclusivity (Leaving Nobody Out), moments of self-reckoning (Mercy), perseverance through doubt (Carry On), and finding peace in memory and music (In The Haze). It’s a record about holding on—to joy, to empathy, to each other (Don’t Let the Party Fade Out)—and advice to Look For The Blue, and live fully in the Here And Now. With the band’s signature melodic sparkle and enchanting vocals as its greatest strengths.
