Single review: Lowballer || Volvo 240 Wagon

NYC punks declare their love for iconic station wagon

Volvo people are a cult, and I say that with love. One of my best friends was deep in it — the kind of guy who’d brag about his wagon like it was a muscle car, even as it coughed its way through every intersection and broke down more often than a garage sale VCR.

Anyway, NYC punks Lowballer get it. Their dream car? That boxy tank — the 240 Volvo. You know the one. Looks like a refrigerator with wheels that could have been drawn by a 7-year-old. Lowball love it so much they turned it into a song — Volvo 240 Wagon, a 60-second shout-along with “VOLVO! 240 WAGON!” as the chorus. Punk as hell. There’s another track too, about having no hobbies, and it’s just as fun and filthy. Lowballer sound like they recorded these two songs in a parking lot through a busted intercom — and it rules.

As for my friend, this year he finally ditched the Volvo for something “reliable.” It broke down in three weeks. Guess he just runs on chaos.
