Wandering through my favorite tags in the depths of Bandcamp—looking for some catchy tunes to kick off the weekend—I stumbled upon Shark City. It turns out they’re a new beach punk trio from Arnhem, the Netherlands, and since I can’t imagine the band name refers to that location, I assume it was inspired by the film with a 4.0/10 rating on IMDb. Either way, the five tracks that make up their self-titled debut EP guarantee a sweaty Friday night party with explosive riffs, groovy rhythms, and infectious gang vocals. Pretty cool discovery, right?

The eponymous Shark City EP, recorded and mixed by Ron Kessels, is out now digitally via Beach Rats Records. Featuring Jac Duijf, Joost Berkers, and Sean Jeurissen.
