Evening Standards are back with their fifth LP, Prairie Vida, and they’ve done it the old-school way: no hype campaign, no playlist bait, no exclusive premieres. Just a record dropped into the world, waiting for whoever’s paying attention. And holy hell, it deserves your attention.

For longtime fans, the announcement alone should be enough to spark tail-wagging excitement. For newcomers: Chris Mott and Daun Fields are the heart of the band (this time joined by Cole Champion and Greg O’Neil). Whether or not they coined the phrase “basement pop,” they embody it fully. Their sound blends punk, alt rock, folk, and guitar pop, but what sets it apart is the spirit—heart, grit, integrity—and the dual vocals that make every line feel communal and true.

The lyrics deepen that sense of connection. Evening Standards write about ordinary lives with extraordinary care, chronicling how love, friendship, and music itself can keep the darkness at bay.  Soon the characters in these songs start to feel like friends or family, and Prairie Vida itself like a record to treasure.
