When I wrote about Like A Bell last year, Cruise Control’s second album had yet to be announced. Well, it’s here, and the twangified rock ’n’ roll hit opens the band’s new LP on a high note. The song is one of the more hard-driving moments on a record that, for the most part, leans into countrified indie pop — easy on the ears, pleasing on the mind.
Time Is An Angel is retro without being faux, warm without being stuffy, and full of jangle and soul. It’s the kind of record that feels lived-in from the first spin, striking the balance between charm and craftsmanship. A fine outing from this Portland quartet, and another gem for the shelves of Curation Records.
Album out now on CD and LP via Curation Records.
