We’ve been following Dancer since their debut, great to see how the Glasgow-based post-punk quartet is developing. More or Less, their second full-lengther, feels less dark and more reflective than their previous work, without losing sharpness or gravity. Songwriter Gemma Fleet (vocals), Christopher Taylor (guitar), Andrew Doig (bass), and new band member Luke Moran (drums) deliver twelve well-balanced songs in which the energy and dynamics rarely dip—until the closing track, appropriately titled Calm Down.
The record’s strength lies in the interplay between the characterful vocals and restless riffs and rhythms, interspersed with buoyant hooks that meet contemplative edges. Dancer keeps the momentum going.
More or Less, recorded by Ross McGowan, is out now digitally and on vinyl LP through Meritorio Records.
