Another awesome band from New York City? That’s right: meet Cool Whip, a noise rock quartet featuring Dan Wise (guitars, lead vocals), Joe Denardo (bass, vocals), Dave Kadden (keyboards), and Brendan Allen (drums). Their debut LP, Flame in My Heart, captivates with eight diverse songs between psychedelic garage rock and shoegazey post-punk, captured in a lo-fi sound.

The confident opening song Trapt and the grooving title track stand out for me, but the slow burning cover of John Cale’s Emily is also worth mentioning. From frantic guitar strumming and hypnotic repetitive rhythms to more-ish vocals, interspersed with memorable hooks, this is proof that raw power can still sound transcendent.
