I’ve said it before, but indie punk doesn’t get much better—or more likeable—than Martha. The Durham quartet plays with a mix of caffeinated urgency, sugary hooks, and unapologetically heartfelt delivery that just works.
So even if their new album is technically a compilation, not a front-to-back new LP, I’m in. Standing Where It All Began pulls together 20 singles and B-sides from the past 13 years, and it’s far from a dusty archive dump. This is Martha in mixtape mode—raw, scrappy, and fun.
Sure, I’m not a completist (no really, I’m not), but how am I supposed to resist a collection that includes the original version of 1967, I Miss You, I’m Lonely, and covers of Jimmy Eat World, The Marked Men, Tenement, Allo Darlin’, and The Lemonheads?
I’m not a completist—but Standing Where It All Began? That’s a must-have. Buy it at Specialist Subject Records.
