New album: The Slow Summits || Every Intention

A gentle revival of melancholy jangle pop

In a flash, I thought I’d found the 2,000th cover of Richard Berry’s Louie Louie, but listening revealed it was a new original with the same title. It’s one of twelve elegant songs on Every Intention, the debut album by The Slow Summits—an indie pop quartet from Linköping, Sweden, featuring Anders Nyberg (vocals, rhythm guitar), Mattias Holmqvist Larsson (bass, backing vocals, keyboards, percussion), Karl Sunnermalm (lead guitar, keyboard, piano, harmonica, glockenspiel), and Fredrik Svensson (drums, backing vocals). They deliver a masterclass in smooth, melodic jangle pop, perhaps somewhat reminiscent of Morrissey from better days, yet completely original. Expect wistful songwriting, shimmering guitar lines, and breezy vocals, performed with a soft-focus charm and tasteful restraint—warm, bittersweet, and effortlessly timeless.

Every Intention is out now digitally and on CD through Subjangle.
