Three weeks after dropping installment 45, here is number 47 in J Waylon’s Friends of Cesar Romero Doomed Babe Series. And yes, I know—that means there was a number 46 in between, but that one featured only a single song, which would’ve broken our admittedly arbitrary yet self-protective rule of not covering individual tracks on this site. (The song—Florencia—was pretty good though!)

That also applies to these two new songs. Like Extracting Teeth From The Jaws Of Death is a badass title for a badass and angry punk rock track, where J Waylon matches the raw emotion of the lyrics with a fierce vocal delivery. When he belts out the “Riiiiiiip it oooouuuuttttt” chorus, you know he means it.

The contrast with second track Empress Of The South Pole is massive—and not just musically, with its sweet, jangly power pop feel. Where the first song is driven by frustration and fury toward the antagonist, this one is full of concern and empathy for its subject. No idea if both tracks are about the same person, but together they make for a compelling listen—and a standout addition to the series.

Okay, time to pull up my chair and wait for the next one.
