Dance of the Goons, the opening track on the new Gino and the Goons LP, catapults you straight into a time you never lived through but somehow know in your bones. You can feel the awe, the pulse, and smell the sweat of a band setting local dancehalls on fire—sparking kids to steal instruments and clear out their parents’ garages to start their own noisy revolutions.

It’s not the first time this band has thrilled us with their brand of primitive pop for people who believe in keeping things raw and simple—because that’s when the hooks hit hardest. The new self-titled album continues their tradition of garage rock heat, with plenty to like and little to overthink.

You just hope that Dance of the Goons isn’t a last dance, but a promise of more to come.
