Maybe Margate is the DIY twee pop project of Olivia Asseman and Ivan Breton, based in Lille, France. On their sophomore full-length album Hello Rush you’ll hear eleven original songs with layered arrangements, dreamy melodies and heavenly vocals. The lyrics, wrapped in warmth, are relatable (it feels like opening track Scared of Heights was written especially for me), and while Pebbles and Sarah don’t directly reference the legendary compilations and record label respectively, they do contribute to the appealing sense of nostalgia that characterizes this sophisticated record. It’s is a welcome soundtrack for the coming summer, a refreshing breeze on hot days.
Hello Rush—recorded, mixed and mastered by Ivan Breton—is out now digitally and on CD via Too Good To Be True.
