We know Yawners as the compelling indie rock/noise pop project of Madrid-based singer/songwriter/guitarist Elena Nieto. Her new (fourth) full-length album Superbucle contains eleven self-penned songs—sung in Spanish, except for standout track Self-Diagnosis, that originated during a nap—all equally energetic, jaunty and straightforward. The record opens with Un Día Genial (translated: a great day) and closes Un Día Horrible (a horrible day), with more or less important events and experiences in between, repeating themselves when you press the play button again. It is a deep dive into the rhythms of human nature, set to layered pop punk soundscapes in which guitars and electronics merge seamlessly, with vibrant vocals as the inspired connector.
