Wilder Woods aka William Stanley Rinehart III aka Bear Rinehart Of Needtobreathe is going to conquer even more hearts with Curioso, his third solo release. We get ten songs—probably filed under alt-country, but stretching the boundaries of that genre quite far—lyrically inspired by his grandmother’s curio cabinet, a collection of memorabilia that says a lot about its owner, and musically influenced by Perfume Genius’s rhythms, OutKast’s hip hop samples, Arcade Fire’s sweeping indie-rock, and even Breeders’ distorted guitars. The warm, textured instrumentation and soulful, powerhouse vocals are captivating as we’ve come to expect, contributions from Jim James, Anna Graves, and Maggie Rose add value.
